EXCLUSIVE! Izzie Flórez talks all about acting and using her platform for good

From the big screen to your phone screen, Izzie Flórez is making appearances. The young model, actress and creative is speaking her truth and sharing her passions with the world. The growing social media personality inspires viewers with her very own morning show, "Weekend Mornings with Izzie," via Instagram Life. In an exclusive interview, Izzie spoke about using her platform to educate and inspire, and dished the *realest* advice about breaking into the entertainment indsutry.

Girls' Life: What inspired you to start your show "Weekend Mornings with Izzie"?

Izzie Flórez: I began my "Weekend Mornings with Izzie" show on my own as a way to fill time during the COVID-19 lockdown. I never anticipated that the show would grow to the point that it has.

I love to include guests who are diverse within their talents, gender and nationality—I've had quite a few guests from other countries! Aside from diving into the obvious questions, I like to explore other subjects such as the importance of giving back, anti-bullying, social media pressures and the skewed illusions that often exist from celebs' social platforms.

GL: Do you have any favorite interviews you've done on the show?

Izzie: It would be incredibly difficult to select a favorite guest of all time. I truly love chatting with guests who are all so different from each other.

GL: How do you hope to use your platform for good?

Izzie: I currently use my platform for awareness and fundraising in many areas surrounding child trafficking, anti-bullying, autism, poverty, animal rescue and medical research campaigns. As my platform continues to grow, I hope it will continue to enhance and positively impact these organizations.

Izzie's current faves:

Favorite song? "Stupid Love" by Lady Gaga

Favorite fashion trend? I don't follow trends—I like to mix and match!

Favorite book? The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein

Favorite singer? Lady Gaga

Favorite Food? Sushi—I'm obsessed with sashimi.

GL: When did you first get into acting and what inspired you to start?

Izzie: I began modeling at the age of three. When I was five, I was scouted by an L.A. agent at a runway event in Phoenix, Arizona. I participated in a few theatrical performances in Tucson. I landed the lead of "Max" in "Where the Wild Things Are" in a local production prior to my first visit to L.A. This peaked my curiosity for acting, so I was excited to give L.A. a try. I never imagined that I would ever move to the city and that it would become such a huge part of my life.

GL: Any advice for girls looking to break into the entertainment industry?

Izzie: This industry is difficult. When you're younger, it's easier to book roles based on being "cute" (and there aren't as many demands). As you get older, you begin to realize the amount of work that's required and how much competition exists for each role. You have to be in it to win it—you have to want it most. You need to work the hardest because there are so many talented kids right there, fighting for the same roles.

Rejection is more common than not. You will be told "no" so many times. It's important to be grounded, have an unbelievable amount of confidence and an amazing support system. Roles are often lost for the smallest reasons and not necessarily acting ability.

You will be asked, "What have you done" and "How many projects have you booked?" so many times. Remember that this is a journey. It shouldn't be about how much you've achieved but the love of the art and the person you've become (and who you remain) along the way. Don't let yourself be swept up in the negativity.

Most importantly, be sure that this is really want *you* want—not what your parents want. They won't be the ones being pulled in various directions or staying up late studying scripts.
