EXCLUSIVE! Addison Rae talks He's All That, high school secrets and new music
Addison Rae traveled from our phones into our hearts thanks to her incredible TikTok vids. Now she's officially invading larger screens as the star of He's All That, Netflix's gender-swapped remake of the classic '90s rom-com She's All That.
In the movie, Addison plays popular girl Padgett, who bets that she can turn "loser" Cameron (played by Tanner Buchanan) into the prom king. We caught up with Addison, 20, who spilled the tea about the movie, her co-stars—and her IRL high school experience.
Girls' Life: You've been open about how much work you put into preparing for your acting debut in He's All That. What was the biggest challenge?
Addison Rae: Not looking at or in the camera, which is a big change from filming the content I'm used to creating. But it was all so exciting!
GL: IF you had to give your He's All That co-stars yearbook-style superlatives, what titles would everyone get?
AR:
Tanner [Buchanan]: Most Likely to Drink Coffee with Every Meal
Rachael [Leigh Cook]: Best Smile
Myra [Molloy]: Best Shoulder to Cry On
Madison [Pettis]: Best Dressed
Peyton [Meyer]: Life of the Party
Annie [Jacob]: Beauty and Brains
GL: Were you more of a Padgett or a Cameron in high school?
AR: Definitely more of a Padgett. I worked really hard to get good grades and did a lot of extracurricular activities.
GL: What's the biggest difference between the main roles in He's All That compared to She's All That?
AR: I like that the story doesn't center around a girl having to be beautiful to be the winner at the end. Instead, in our version, the girl has the power to create her own story.
GL: What teen movie stereotype about high school is the biggest lie?
AR: That being mean is cool or can make you cool. Kindness always wins.
GL: What is the most movie-worthy thing you ever did for love in high school?
AR: Hah! That's something I'll keep for myself.
GL: We love "Obsessed." What's next for you on the music front?
AR: All I can say is there is a lot of fun music coming!
GL: We're also huge fans of ITEM, so we can't not ask you a beauty Q. What do you predict will be the biggest fall beauty trend?
AR: I think colored mascara will become more of a trend this year. It's so fun and gives such a different look!
GL: What is the biggest misconception people have about you if they *only* know you from following you on TikTok?
AR: That I'm always smiling. Some days I'm sad and that's OK—I just don't post about it on TikTok.
