Tough Stuff

This clever video reminds us that cyberbullying is so not cool

We’ve pretty much all seen Jimmy Kimmel’s hilarious segment "Celebrities Read Mean Tweets," and we can’t deny that they're a riot. The celebs make taking insults and turning them into a funny observation (instead of letting it get to them) something we can all appreciate––but something more than humor has resulted from these videos. Now, the Canadian Safe School Network has taken the idea of reading mean tweets aloud and turned it into a strong statement on cyber-bullying—and we’re totally on board.

The vid, 'Kids Read Mean Tweets' imitates the exact style of Kimmel’s version, starting out with a loud laugh track in the beginning as the teens read the tweets. As the video plays on, the laughter gets quieter and we can really see the heartache on everyone's faces.

One girl reads: "No one likes you. Do everyone a favor and just kill yourself," and seems to be seriously hurt by the comment and walks off camera. Talk about a tear-jerker.

This powerful video reminds us that mean tweets are no joke—don’t ever encourage them, support them, and definitely don’t ever send them. Remember, if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all. There's a lot of hurt that can go into 140 characters.
