Your new diary app looks…a little bit different. Imagine a place where you can write down *all* your hot takes, log and rate every film imaginable, follow all of your friends and document anything and everything movie-related. This app is called Letterboxd, and it’s about to become your latest obsession.
What better conversation starter is there than learning someone’s four favorite movies *of all time?* One of Letterboxd’s most unique characteristics is its “Four Favorites” feature—which is pretty self-explanatory—but it essentially lets you choose and display four movies that hold a special place in your heart. It’s an exciting way to share a unique part of yourself, and even more fun to see what films others adore. So create your account, add your faves and see how similar your movie taste is to your BFF’s or favorite celeb.
Letterboxd is also an interesting combination of both diary *and* social media app. On one hand, you can log every movie you’ve watched and sort them by date. Part of the log also includes giving each film a rating out of 5 stars and jotting down your thoughts in a review (kinda like Goodreads). For those who don’t just want to use it as a private journal, you can also see and “like” others’ public ratings, as well as follow all your friends who have accounts. Followers or mutuals can see your “activity feed,” which is basically a list of the recent movies you’ve watched and/or rated.
Letterboxd also features a number of lists, like their notable and constantly updated “Top 10 Most Popular Films This Week”. If you and your besties are constantly on the lookout for fun plans for the summer, this feature is basically a built-in activity generator. You can see which movies have come out recently, grab your gals and go to the theater and rate them together afterward.
