Grab your sweatshirt
Hobby Lobby’s mocknecks come in three cute colors–cream, heathered gray and black. Our fave color for mocknecks is cream, but any color can work, so choose whichever one speaks to you.
If the bottom of your sweatshirt is a little too fitted, don’t sweat it. Grab your fabric scissors and snip vertically through the ribbing on the side seams (stop cutting once you meet the main fabric). Then, sew a few hand stitches at the top of each cut so your mockneck doesn’t completely unravel. This loosens up the bottom of your sweatshirt *just* enough to get that boxy look we all know and love.
Pick your message
Once you’ve got your mockneck, go about three aisles over to find the iron-on letter patches. Choose a color that complements your mockneck (we heart darker letters for a high-contrast and easy-to-read look, but pretty pastels and whites can look great, too).
Not quite sure what to put on your mockneck? Try your school name (or, for seniors, your college choice), your name, your dream trip destination (what about Stars Hollow?) or references to your fave show or book.
Iron them on
Set your iron to the medium-high setting and pre-iron the area your letters will go down to start with a flat working space. Place your patches right where you want them (using a ruler to line them up) and cover them with a thin cloth to prevent the iron from burning the letters. Firmly press the iron straight down on each letter for about thirty secs until they’re adhered. Remember, don’t move the iron around in circles–that’ll shift your perfectly placed patches.
For the finishing touch, flip your mockneck inside out and iron the area of the sweatshirt behind your stickers. Let your sweatshirt sit for about two minutes so the glue can bond with the fabric, and you’re done!
