We all love exploring new places, but sometimes, being so far from home-sweet-home takes a toll on your sunny vibes. Who wouldn’t miss your fluffy bed or your mom’s homemade cookies? Whether you’re off slaying summer camp, touring the Seine with your fam or even (eek!) flying solo at college, read on for all the best tips on how to beat the homesick blues.
Recreate Your Vibe
Think about what makes your home, home. Does your house have a cozy, cottagecore aesthetic, or is it more chic n’ clean? Is your dad always blasting his fave album in the kitchen? What about that one candle your sis always has lit in her room? Whatever the vibe of your space is, try to recreate it in your current setting. Try lighting a familiar candle, bingeing your fam’s unofficial fave flick (every fam has one) or even tidying up your space a little. Make whatever little tweaks you need to your space to make it feel more like home.
Find Your Place

Whether it’s your cozy bed or that corner in your fave coffee shop (Venti mocha with cold foam, pls!), everyone has that one spot in their hometown that just feels like home. And we’ve got news: You can *absolutely* find a new place wherever you are now. Vibing at summer camp? Most camps have at least one gorge gazebo or pond for you and your girls to hang out at. We heart sunset tea seshes on the water. If homesickness is hitting hard at college, we’re betting that there’s a supes aesthetic library or cafe near your dorm (perf for your lock-in seshes). When you find new fave places, you’re making your current setting feel like a whole new home. Who knows? You may even be homesick for this new place one day, too!
Make Connections

Everyone says home is where the heart is, and a big part of that is hearting the people that make your home, home. When you’re in a new place, you’re often surrounded by total strangers. Instead of viewing it as awkward, think about it as a chance to make new BFFs. Sometimes, some of the best connections we’ll ever make are on vacation. (Helloooo, Troy and Gabriella!) Even if you’re not staying long, you’d be surprised by the number of connections you can make in a few days (think: that barista you’re always chatting with or the kinda cute lifeguard from the beach). When you’re feeling homesick, your squad will be there to support you. And even better, having connections with people in your new place will help you find your place right where you are. You’ll *def* be missing them when you’re outta there.
Keep Your Routine

Rolling out of bed at noon, wolfing down some ice cream for lunch, snagging Chick-fil-A at 10 and hitting the sack at 3 a.m….sound familiar? Sometimes when we’re away from home, we lose the structure of our day. Sticking to your old routine (YK, early wake up and *actually* getting on that treadmill?) can actually help you feel closer to home.
Look For The Good

Instead of dwelling on what you miss about your home, remind yourself of all the amaze things about where you are now. Sure, summer camp can be scary, but you get to make tons of new friends *and* perfect your archery skills. Down in the dumps on your month-long European vacay? Just remind yourself…you’re on a month-long European vacay! How many girls get to experience such breathtaking places (and not to mention delish foods) so early on in life? No matter how fabulous your hometown is, there’s always something good to find about any sitch you’re in.
