10 '90s characters who would *totally* be TikTok stars today
Oh, the '90s—the decade that brought us fab fashion (hello, butterfly clips) and trendy tracks (Backstreet Boys, anyone?). But there are also *tons* of quotable '90s characters who are so iconic that they're still popular today. We'd like to think that if these teens had access to a time machine, they'd totally be TikTok stars in 2021.
Cher Horowitz
Cher from Clueless actually has a *way* normal life for a teenage girl—and we'd love to see more of it on TikTok. She would definitely run a very successful fashion and beauty account featuring everything from dressing for a date to the ultimate makeover guide. Her chic clothing and sparkly personality is exactly what the world needs rn. And we would be thrilled to hear more of her unique life perspectives, from "She's a full-on Monet" to "It does not say RSVP on the Statue of Liberty."
Steve Urkel
"Did I do that?" Only Steve from Family Matters could accidentally destroy a newly repaired roof...with a jet pack. Everyone's favorite TV next-door neighbor would bring his special stunts and hilarious hijinks to a new level on TikTok. We're sure everyone would love to see his clone machine and robot in action (whether or not these inventions actually work). Plus, we think it's time to introduce the Urkel Dance to a new generation!
Salem Saberhagen
Sabrina Spellman's cat from Sabrina the Teenage Witch may look cute and cuddly, but he has a serious sarcastic streak. His commentary on everything from food to animals would be hysterical and we would never tire of hearing his quips. Not to mention, he's super relatable—"when I'm upset, I eat" and "I need a little fresh air and a latte"—same, Salem, same.
Stephanie Tanner
Tbh, the entire Tanner family could be TikTok famous—especially Michelle. But Steph's spectacular dance skills would wow the whole world. Remember her iconic Love Shack dance in season 3 of Full House? She would bring fresh choreo to TikTok that would leave *everyone* saying, "Whoa, baby." This is also the perfect time to bring back her on-point catchphrases, like "How rude" and "Pin a rose on your nose"—because no one does sarcasm like Steph.
Topanga Lawrence
Would Topanga from Boy Meets World like social media? Probably not. Would she be a star? Most definitely. Topanga would be an earth-centric, quirky content creator—the kind of person who follows her heart and accepts others for who they are. Between her poems and petitions, she would always be her most authentic self. Even her reflection on relationships is inspiring: "You do your thing, I do mine. You are you, I am I. And if in the end we end up together, it's beautiful."
Bianca Stratford
If anyone screams '90s influencer (besides Cher, ofc), it's Kat's little sister from 10 Things I Hate About You. Besides understanding the difference between "like" and "love" ("Because, I like my Skechers, but I love my Prada backpack"), she would be totally up to speed on all the latest trends. We can *definitely* see her rocking a bucket hat and mom jeans and defining trends for years to come.
Marnie Piper
We would love to get glimpses of life in Halloweentown, and 13-year-old Marnie would give us just that. Going along for a spin on Grandma Aggie's broomstick or riding the magical bus would be incredible, and we're dying to see more of the mystical world inhabited by witches and warlocks. The sky's the limit with these fantastical content possibilities, and we're sure Marnie could deliver—just like she restored the talisman to the pumpkin and saved the world.
Mushu
Animated characters definitely count, and based on Mushu's breakfast skills in Mulan, we have no doubt he'd get all the hits for his cute creations. Not only would he make memorable breakfast bowls, but his training vids would also be *amazing*. We're hoping Mulan and Li Shang would make guest appearances, too. And if you don't follow him? "Dishonor on you, dishonor on your cow."
Hallie Parker and Annie James
Giving these trendy twins from The Parent Trap a joint TikTok account is a brilliant beyond brilliant idea. With scrunchies, jean jackets and cool Cali vibes for Hallie and knee socks, plaid sets and preppy London style for Annie, these two are timeless fashion icons.Their unique styles and twin-switching pranks would make them stars in an instant. Plus, they would provide the best Oreo and peanut butter recipes and teach us the secret to Annie and Martin's iconic handshake.
Phoebe Buffay
From her songs to her style, Phoebe is an *icon*. We're so entertained by her smelly cat song and flamboyant fashion (that furry orange jacket tho). Her upbeat personality and vivacious energy would allow her to brighten the days of all of her followers. Plus, the other Friends would have to make an appearance at some point...right?
