Feel Good Friday: How two middle school girls made their classmates feel beautiful

Middle school can be tough (and awkward) for everyone. That's why these two Oregon middle school students decided to take action and created a movement called  “Love My Reflection,” featuring compact mirrors with nice notes written on them to boost girls' confidence when they’re bringing themselves down.

It all started when they overheard classmates being hard on themselves in the bathroom. They decided it would be nice to hand out the mirrors to girls at their school with uplifting messages such as “You are beautiful,” “You are inspiring,” and “You are brilliant” written on the glass. That way, they'll see their reflection accompanied by a little body-positive inspo. Neat, right?

“[W]e did this project because girls should feel they’re wonderful, and we wanted to help them create a positive self-esteem,” Genae told ABC News.

After launching the initiative, they made a GoFundMe page, to get people to join in and aid thier mission to “help develop positive self-esteem and body images in middle school girls.”

Avery told TODAY.com that they hope to “make this a national thing,” and they're looking to expand the program to schools around the country after receiving such positive feedback at their own school.

“It’s definitely made a big difference,” Genae added during the girls’ interview with TODAY.com. “I definitely see more smiles on their faces. I see them complimenting themselves."

Way to go, Genae and Avery!
