What's it *really* like to be an influencer? These VidCon creators are spilling it all
Is it just us, or have the influencers been totally influencing lately? 💕 From the beauty babes perfecting their poolside hairstyles to the gamer girlies leveling up their streaming setups, it's been a summer of srsly amazing content.
For many top creators, summer means another big moment: VidCon. The annual gathering started back in 2010 by the dynamic duo of brothers (+ saver of our grades), John and Hank Green. Jump to the latest event in 2024, and it's grown to a huuuge convention of community meetups, content creator workshops and all the biggest influencers a gal could dream of.
This year's lineup lived up to the hype: We headed to VidCon to see some of our 2024 cover stars slay their panels (we see you, Kylie Cantrall and Ruby Rose Turner!) and meet some of the trendiest influencers at the IG Creator Café.
Ofc, since we're girls' girls, we asked them your hottest Q's on all things influencing. Meet our incredible interviewees: Hannah (@hannahxxrose), Kylie (@nutritionbykylie), Monica (@monicamamudo), Fay (@faythefae) and Faith (@mrs.bench_fidgettoysplus).
Girls' Life: What kind of content do you create?
Hannah: I make Minecraft content, whether that's videos, streams or short-form videos, and I also play a bunch of other games like The Sims or Stardew Valley.
Kylie: I post nutrition tips, easy recipes and nutrition advice.
Monica: I make content about being a Brazilian living in the United States and being in a multicultural relationship. I have a very North American boyfriend, so the cultural clash is what everyone loves to see!
Fay: My content is about combining mobility aids and fashion and expressing yourself with how you dress.
Faith: I create content about fidget toys, sensory tools and slime.

GL: What's your favorite part of your niche?
Kylie: There are so many people who have different perspectives, and although people might not always agree on the best way to nourish your body or the best way to energize yourself, I think everyone wants the same thing at the end of the day...which is to make sure that you're feeling good.
Faith: It gives you so many awesome opportunities—the life experiences, the people you get to meet, the list is endless. I love it.
GL: What inspired you to start creating content?
Hannah: When I was 14 and I started playing Minecraft, there weren't too many YouTubers or streamers I felt like I could look up to. There were a few— and I still love them to this day—but I wanted to be that for somebody one day. So I started making videos and trying to create my own community.
GL: What is it like to be a known influencer on the Internet and meet fans here at VidCon?
Monica: It's a lot of fun to be known as the internet's Brazilian older sister—it's a big role, but I love it. I was made to be a big sister, but my mom did not want to have another child. So I was like, OK, I'll make *everyone* my little sister.
Fay: I love it. This is my second year at VidCon, and this IG Creator Café is the first place I’ve been this time. Everybody is really nice.
GL: Do you have any advice for girls wanting to make their own content?
Hannah: Just go for it! Don't overthink it. Start as soon as you can, and every single stream, try and improve just one thing better from the last content. The hardest part is just clicking “post” for the first time.
Kylie: I was really nervous getting into making content—I'm not naturally someone who likes to be on camera or take up a lot of space. If you feel like you want to share something, you should, because there's always someone who's going to relate to your story. There's always going to be someone who feels the way that you feel, and that can be really validating in a world where you might feel isolated otherwise.
Monica: Honestly? Just have fun. Success comes from consistency and being authentic. So post and don't worry about the followers or engagement or any of that. That will come with your authentic self being exposed.
Faith: Be your unique self. It’s really cool in content where, even though there might be a lot of people in one specific niche, you can see your authentic self coming through. Don’t copy anyone—figure out what makes you *you.*
Fay: Don’t take anything too personally. Social media is always changing, and if people online are having a bad day, don’t let that impact you. That’s their problem—you keep on doing you.
You heard it from the greatest, besties—if you're daydreaming about getting your *own* invite to the IG Creator Café as a far-off goal, the perfect time to start is now! Who knows? Maybe we'll interview you at VidCon one day.
