EXCLUSIVE! Dara Reneé is the absolute best—periodt.
Dara Reneé is all over our screens again this summer, reprising her role as Kourtney in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season three, and tbh, we couldn't be more OK with that. Why? Because Dara is indisputably one of the best humans to ever grace this planet, and we can prove it. Actually, she can, because these receipts are all words straight from Dara's own mouth.
Dara is the best best friend.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so proud of Olivia [Rodrigo, who plays her character's BFF, Nini, on the show]. Like, literally, seeing her on that stage during the Sour tour just made me want to cry because she truly deserves it. She's so talented. She's so kind. Everything is just working in her favor, and I see more for her in her future. Literally, every song she played banged. The audience was not chill at all. Like, they were hyping every single song, and I was like, 'Yeeeeeahhhh! I love it!' I was hyping, too."
Dara is the best hype girl for the HSMTMTS fandom.
"I love seeing all the fan speculation 'ships because we have some really great fans—like hardcore, not-playing-games fans—because they are on the money. When I was seeing season two speculations, I was like, 'Oh, hold on, they're getting a little too close!' But they're usually, honestly, right on the money. And it makes me low-key proud because I'm like, 'Oh, look at y'all over here being like Sherlock Holmes. Periodt.'"
Dara is the best IRL camp counselor.
"When I was at my camp back in Baltimore, one of the pranks that I would pull on the little campers—I learned it from, like, some '80s movie—but I put whipped cream on one of their hands and I would slowly tickle their nose until their face itched. When they scratched, it would go all over their faces. But I would always clean everything up and give them ice cream and make sure they were good!"
Dara is the best at manifesting her dreams into reality.
"I was writing songs on my TikTok and Instagram, and [the HSMTMTS producers] were like, 'You know what? We're gonna give you a shot to write a very big song that's very pivotal in the storyline. We want you to write it and you'll be able to sing on it.' I remember Tim [Federle, who created the show] called me and was like, 'Hey, so do you want to write a song? Like, what's the tea?' And I was like, 'Ahhhhhh, yes!' I had been subtly giving him hints—this season, I was like, 'Hey if you ever needed somebody to write a song or whatever, I'm always here. I know it's Disney Channel and you've got a boatload of people, but if you ever wanna give little old me a shot, I'll do it.'"
Catch Dara in season three of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, streaming July 27 on Disney+!
