How To: Rock a cool cape

Capes might make you think of the Medieval Ages and Harry Potter, but this fall staple isn’t just for Halloween anymore. Capes have been spotted on runways and celebs, so all you fashion-forward chicas out there should add one to your wardrobe now! Since they can be a little tricky to pull off, we’re dishing how to wear yours the right way.

Camel coats are a year-round classic, and they look even more sophisty in a serious shape. Think: dark-washed skinnies and pretty flats, or printed tights and preppy riding boots to complete the look. This cape adds a classy touch to any outfit, so wear it when you want to impress.

A cape-jacket is perf for the girl who isn’t ready to fully embrace the trend. Make it sleek with an all-black ensemble, or rock it with colored jeans and motorcycle boots. If you’re a girly-girl, try pairing it with white lace tights and ballet flats – this topper can also go seriously chic and sweet.

If you’re gonna rock a bold printed cape, be choosy with the rest of your outfit. The key is to create balance: since the cape has dramatic dolman sleeves, try pairing it with a slim-fitting bottom like a pencil skirt. Another trick is to keep the rest of your outfit basic, but feel free to turn up the style with some red-hot flats.
