One of the best things about summer? Gobbling up frozen treats without feeling the deep freeze, inside and out! When AC just isn’t enough—or, you know, the craving for frosty goodness strikes—snag one of these picks. Are they as healthy as a piece of fruit? Uh, no. But compared to the rest of the menu, these are sweets you can feel good about. Dig in!

 

 

If you’re heading to…Rita’s Italian Ice

Solo? Try the classic Italian Ice. A kid size is a generous 7.5 oz, so pick your favorite flavor and enjoy. Ranging from 150 to 290 calories depending on the flavor you choose and packing an amount of sugar comparable to a candy bar, it’s a good indulgence.

Splitting? Grab a regular Gelati, which, trust us, is huge. For 340 to 460 calories total, it’s the best of both worlds—and we mean custard and Italian ice, naturally.

 

If you’re heading to…Dairy Queen

Solo? Grab a kid-size Dipped Cone. Classic, fun to eat and 220 calories. Also, 4 grams of protein. Just sayin’, Mom.

Splitting? Order up a small Oreo Cookies Blizzard. It’s what you wanted, isn’t it? Yeah, we thought so. At 620 calories total—we know, buzz kill—it’s a good one to fight over.

 

If you’re heading to…Cold Stone Creamery

Solo? Pick your favorite ice cream and one mix-in to keep the calories under control. And size-wise, go with “Like It,” their smallest option.

Splitting? OK, get a signature Hot Stone sundae, we won’t stop you. Ya might wanna bring along a few more close friends though.

 

If you’re heading to…7/11 or the movies or any place with an ICEE machine

Solo? Pick your favorite flavor and get the smallest size available. True, there’s not a whole lot that goes into a slurpee, but the syrup is high-fructose corn syrup, which isn’t the best thing for your bod.

Splitting? Mix at your own risk!

 

If you’re heading to…your local ice cream parlor

Solo? Put a scoop or two of your favorite flavor, whatever that is, in a cup. Avoid toppings, whipped cream and cones. Because really, you came for the ice cream, right?

Splitting? A banana split without the whip—after all, it is all about the ice cream, right? A little fruit, some nuts and all that creamy goodness. Yum.
