Fact or fiction: Virgins can't use tampons
I have been using pads the year and a half that I've had
my period. I want to try using a tampon but my sis said you have to have sex
first before you can use a tampon and I'm too scared to ask my mom. Can I use a
tampon even though I'm a virgin?
Yes, you absolutely can use a tampon even though you’re a virgin. When a girl has sex, her hymen is broken, but this can also happen while playing sports or during an accident. However, whether or not a girl’s hymen is broken has no effect on using tampons, so both virgins and non-virgins can use ‘em. You might want to set your sis straight on that.
Tampons are great to use if you’re tired of pads or feel
like they’re not giving you the protection that you need. Even though you were scared to ask your
mom about this, she’s a great source of info and can help with all your period
questions. Tampons can be a bit
tricky at first, but don’t hesitate to get help from your mom or doctor—they’ve
got lots of helpful info.
