Eye and Vision Problems

I see these shapes that look like what you see under a microscope, like bacteria or something. It’s as if they’re swimming in my eyes! What is that?
You’re not seeing things. Having shape shifters in your eyeballs is perfectly normal. Most people in their teens and 20s notice spots at various times. If you’re nearsighted, you may see spots even earlier.
The dark dots, lines or particles you see are called “floaters”—aptly named because they seem to float in front of your eyes. They are actually shadows cast by the retina (that’s the light-sensitive tissue lining in the back of your eye that helps you see). Floaters come and go when you move your eye, like when you blink.
Although floaters can be a symptom of eye problems, like a rip in the retina, most cases don’t threaten your vision. Most people just learn to ignore them. If, however, they get worse, make an appointment with an ophthalmologist.
