3 fab energy-boosting foods

Stop sipping soda for a quick pick-me-up. It’s time to improve those eats so you’ve got enough energy to last the day. Give yourself an energy boost (caffeine-free!) by changing up your diet. Here are our three fave foods to keep us going all day long:

Energy booster: Avocados
Why we love ‘em: Avocados are loaded with fat—the good kind, of course. It’s all monosaturated, which is actually very healthy—it works to decrease cholesterol levels. Enjoy this fruit as a mid-afternoon snack for a nice energy kick. Our trick? Whip up some quick guacamole by mashing a ripe avocado and then blending it with a bit of salsa. Enjoy with toasted whole wheat pita.

Energy booster: Fish
Why we love it: Fish, especially white fish, is packed with lean protein. Flounder or tilapia are always good choices—they’re two of the leanest fish, and what little fat they have is only beneficial stuff for your bod. Omega-3 fatty acids are proven to help brain development, among other benefits. Lean protein will keep your muscles charged and will give your brain the food it needs to stay alert.

Superfood: Peanut Butter
Why we love it: Peanut butter is loaded with protein, giving you a lift whenever you need it. You’ll need to enjoy this treat in moderation, but when you need a kick before your homework, spread some of this tasty treat on some toast and go to town. Be sure to go for the all-natural stuff that doesn’t have loads of added sugar. For even more fiber, use it as a dip for celery sticks. Updated ants on a log, anyone?
