Eat Right

Could eating less junk food decrease ADHD?

Forget the sugar rush, girl. If you or your buds suffer from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), ya might want to consider switching up that diet or showing your BFFs this article. In the U.S., one out of every ten kids has ADHD and a recent study showed that processed foods might make symptoms worse.

According to a study published by The Lancet, 78% of kids who stuck to the Restricted Elimination Diet, where they cut out processed snacks and focus on whole foods, for five weeks saw a noticeable decrease in their symptoms (including inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity). Some were even able to stop taking medication.

So what did these kids have to cut? All processed foods. Yep, all of them! For five weeks their diets consisted of lotsa veggies, meat, fruit, water and rice. When they ate foods from their old diets (like potato chips or pretzels), their symptoms returned as well. Even if ya don’t have ADHD, it’s super interesting to how much what you eat can affect how you feel and act.
