These six Qs will tell you if your nutrition bar is really that nutritious
Nutrition bars can seem like the perfect health food. They're quick, easy, portable and tasty...what's not to love? But while Clif, Luna, Kind and other bars can be an awesome snack, they're not *always* quite as nutritious as they seem.
The solution? Check out the nutrition facts and put your bar to the test. It's a solid snack if (and only if) it has...
a.) Fewer than 250 calories
b.) 4 to 5 grams of protein
c.) 3 or more grams of fiber
d.) Fewer than 10-15 grams of fat for a nut-based bar, or 5-6 grams of fat for other bars
e.) Fewer than 10-12 grams of sugar
f.) No more than 200 milligrams of sodium
Sadly, you'll be surprised to find that a lot of bars out there don't pass the test. To avoid added fats, sugars and sodiums, try to replace processed foods with natural alternatives like fruit or plain nuts. Delish!
