Winter air and heaters can be harsh and drying for our skin and lips, and let's be honest, by this time in the winter, our lips are dry, cracked and peeling. These DIY lip scrubs will gently exfoliate and hydrate your lips to keep them going until it's *finally* warm enough to not have the heater on at night.
To make a lip scrub, you need at least two things: an exfoliating ingredient and a hydrating ingredient. The best part? You probably already have both of these kinds of ingredients in your kitchen right now. For each of these five *super* easy lip scrub recipes, simply mix the ingredients, apply to your lips and wash it off after three to five minutes.
Classic Honey Scrub
+ 1 tablespoon sugar or brown sugar
+ 1 tablespoon raw honey
Sugar and honey are the most popular exfoliating and hydrating ingredients in DIY lip scrubs. Put them together and you have a simple lip scrub that can do no wrong.
Lip Plumping Scrub
+ 1/2 tablespoon sugar or brown sugar
+ 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
+ 1 tablespoon raw honey
This one has cinnamon, which is a natural lip plumper and exfoliator. Since cinnamon can be irritating to your lips, make sure to wash this scrub off after a few minutes. It will leave you with the softest, plumpest lips you've had all winter.
Smoothie Scrub
+ 1/2 strawberry
+ a slice of banana
+ 1/2 tablespoon raw honey
+ 2 tablespoons sugar or brown sugar
Mash the strawberry and banana together before adding the other ingredients to make a lip "smoothie." The strawberries and bananas have tons of minerals and vitamins your lips will soak up, and this scrub is the *perf* way to make winter feel more like summer. Warning: it tastes *soo* delish, so you'll have to try not to eat it.
Coffee and Avocado Breakfast Scrub
+ 1 tablespoon coffee grounds
+ 1 tablespoon avocado oil
Are avocado toast and iced coffee your go-to in the mornings? You can turn your fave breakfast into a lip scrub by mixing coffee grounds and avocado oil. If you don't have avocado oil on hand, part of a well-mashed avocado can work as well. If you find sugar scrubs to be too harsh on your lips, coffee grounds are a great, softer alternative to rejuvenate your lips in the morning.
Ultra Moisture Scrub
+ 1/2 tablespoon olive oil
+ 1/2 tablespoon coconut oil
+ 1 tablespoon sugar or brown sugar
Olive oil and coconut oil will leave a moisturizing sheen on your lips, and you can even add an extra layer of coconut oil after washing off the lip scrub for even longer-lasting hydration.
