More movie news keeps coming in, chicas! This week, we’re talking big-name Hollywood actresses joining casts of one retelling of Peter Pan and not just one but two Jungle Book remakes.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Les Miserables and Mamma Mia star Amanda Seyfried will be playing Molly “Mary” Darling in a currently untitled reimagining of J.M. Barrie’s fairy tale. Hugh Jackman, Garrett Hedlun, Rooney Mara and Levi Miller have already signed on as Blackbeard, Hook, Tiger Lily (!) and Peter, respectively. Joe Wright, who directed Keira Knightley in Atonement, Pride and Prejudice and Anna Karenina, is on board, as well.
In other movie news, People’s most beautiful babe of the year, Lupita Nyong’o, as well as The Avengers’ Scarlett Johanssen are in talks to voice Mowgli’s mother wolf Rakcha and python Kaa, respectively. The Disney film will be live action, and will also star the amazing Idris Elba as Shere Khan. Talk about a star-spangled cast!
And as we mentioned, Warner Bros. is producing another Jungle Book with Andy Serkis at the helm. The film is said to be dark and very true to Rudyard Kipling’s source material. That’ll be an entirely different take from the 1967 “Bare Necessities”-singing Baloo and company.
This comes on top of Sofia Coppola’s The Little Mermaid (with rumors swirling that Emma Watson wants to play Ariel) and a new Disney take on Beauty and the Beast, and we’re ready to put on our princess dress-up costumes and prance around in heels and tiaras. Anyone for a princess tea? Anyone? No?
