There’s a lot to love about summer beauty (hiii, mermaidcore vibes), but the way the heat and humidity melt your makeup as soon as you step outside? Not so much.
But we have good news for all our beauty gurus out there–there *are* ways to save your skin from the soaring temps! Read on to figure out just how to make your makeup, hair and skin perfectly and totally heat-proof this vacay.
Skincare

The key to beating the heat with your skincare is keeping it light and simple. A 12-step routine piles on *tons* of layers of products, and if they get too thick, they can melt off just as easily as a full face of makeup.
First, make sure every product in your lineup is lightweight and water-based. This is your sign to stash those heavy overnight creams away ’til winter and opt for gel or milky moisturizers instead.
After your products are all applied, wait two or three minutes before moving on to makeup. This lets your skincare set in, so it’s less likely to slide around on your face.
And the most important part of summer skincare? Sunscreen, obvi! Grab a sunscreen specifically labeled as sweat-proof so it stays no matter how sweltering the sun gets.
Makeup

When the days get hot, makeup starts to melt off faster than Frosty the Snowman (any girl’s biggest fear, natch). The best way to keep your makeup looking polished? Using primer for extra grip. Go lighter on the coverage by using water-based foundation or even skipping it altogether (you can even swap it out for a skin tint or tinted sunscreen). For the rest of your makeup, keep it minimal (the more layers, the more likely your makeup is to slide off) and lock it all in with a setting spray.
One hack to heat-proof your makeup even more is making sure the bases of your primer, foundation and concealer match. A water-based foundation with a silicone concealer? That’s gonna slide right off. Instead, try your GRWM with a water-based version of all three (simply peek at the first few ingredients on the product label—and thank us later).
Hair

Raise your hand if you’ve ever spent hours styling your hair *just* how you like it, only to step outside and have it immediately poof into a frizz ball. We see you, girl.
First things first, if you’re using heat on your hair, always remember to use heat protectant. It helps lock in the moisture so your style stays even when the humidity hits (*and* it helps prevent damage and split ends!). You should also never use your curling iron or flat iron on damp hair. It fries your hair cuticle and will zap any extra moisture you have.
Once your locks are styled, finish with a little oil or serum to lock in your hair’s hydration.
Ready to hit the beach? We thought so.
