Last year, I liked a guy named CL. He was a great pal. One day I gave him a note saying I liked him and circled no and said sorry. My friend thought he did that because he didn’t want people to talk. After that, he listened to his iPod for a month on the bus and kept to himself. Recently, he’s been himself again–talking to me, kinda flirting and goofing around. He flies rubberbands at me, smiles a lot, and when I talked to people, he looks at me. To make things more confusing, this dude named TG keeps asking me if I like him when CL is there. I always say “no” since I don’t like him like that. Every time he asks, CL makes a really weird “what in the world face” and one of my friends heard a rumor that he likes me now. I’m confused because everyday it gets stupider and stupider, and sweeter and flirty-er. (Grammar Check: More stupid! Eek!)’

Hey girly,
Welcome to the often-confusing world of boys. Like you said, “it gets stupider and stupider and then sweeter and flirty-er.” The best thing you can do in this situation is straight up confront this boy! A lot of times they’re just as nervous and shy as we are. So make him feel more comfortable by talking to him when you guys are alone, when there are no friends around to make embarrassing jokes.
You could try saying, “I know I asked you this before, but I was just wondering what’s going on because I like you and I want to know if you like me, too.” Yes, it’s probably easier said than done. But trust me, once you do, you’ll feel like a ton of bricks has been lifted off your shoulders.
Worst-case scenario: he doesn’t like you like that, but you guys can still be friends. Best-case scenario: he has a crush on you, too! Either way, you should feel proud of yourself for having the courage to talk to him about it…and that is totally sweet, not stupid.
Good luck,
L’Oreal
