I really want to become the Valedictorian of my 8th grade class, but there’s this one subject I think I’m failing and it’s depressing me. Everyone–my teachers and especially my mom–say that’ll I’ll make it, but who knows?! My mom puts so much pressure on me about my work and studying. Sometimes I come home and start crying because it’s all to much. Please help me in this great depression!’

Hey Bianca,
Ugh, I totally feel you on the school pressure! Pressure is even worse when its coming from not only others but yourself.
First of all, its only the beginning of the school year so you still have time to boost your grades. For the subject that you think you may be doing badly in, talk to your teacher. Ask the teacher for extra help after class, find a tutor or ask another gal who is doing well in that class to explain the subject to you. I know you’re trying really hard and you just gotta keep doing your best, that’s all anyone can ask for!
You should let your mom know how all this pressure makes you feel. She probably doesn’t even know how upset you are. Tell her what subject you think is tough and tell her that you’re doing your best and will get help from a tutor, friend or your teacher. Parents want the best for their children, and she’s just trying to push you to be the best that you can be.
Schoolwork shouldn’t be the only thing you do with school! Channel all that stress and pressure into an afterschool activity. Sports like running, soccer, and swimming are a great chance to let off steam and get a whole new group of gal pals. Join a club that you’re interested in. Being a part of something is always soo rewarding.
Also, make some time for YOU! You can’t be the best gal you can be if you’re super-stressed! Make some time to hang out with you BFFs after you do your homework. Relax on your couch to your fav movie, get in a bubble bath with some sweet scented bubbles or bake your fav cookies or brownies.
I know you can go for Valedictorian! Just work hard for it but don’t let your life revolve around it! There’s more to life than a 100, an A+ or a trophy. It’s really all about having fun and enjoying yourself! So try your best but don’t over-stress girl. You can do it!
