My dad is totally over protective about the internet. Lately I have been trying to get him to let me have wireless internet in my room. He thinks that people will track me down and hurt me. Honestly I don’t understand why he thinks that I’m naive enough to fall for any scams. He has got it into his head that I will post my personal info online and get hurt. When I promised him that I’d never do that, he said that one of my friends might. Well, I definitely know my best friends and none of them would ever do that to me or put me in danger like that, just like i never would do that to them. He keeps saying that it’s not that he doesn’t trust me, but something might “accidentally” get out. I know my friends and I know myself, none of us are even close to getting ourselves in that kinda stitch. Please help! I have tried everything under the sun to try and convince my dad that I’m responsible to be on the internet.’

Hey Bluesy,
Your dad is just being over protective because he loves you so much. He is right, there are a ton of dangerous people on the internet, and you never know when you might come across them. On the other hand, it is frustrating when your parents still treat you like an irresponsible kid. With that said, there is a simple and easy solution to your stitch!
Every comp has a setting that allows parents to control what websites their kids frequent and what websites they can’t frequent. Sit down with the old pops and give him a list of web addresses that you like to go on. If he’s skeptical of any sites, have him check them out with you. Compromise and talk it through and see you two can work together!
Hugs, kisses, and all that jazz,
