Andrea: Hey, Samantha. I loved you on the show, you were great. You took two VERY beautiful photographs.
Samantha: Well, thank you very much! [giggles]
You made the cutest face during elimination. What was going through your mind, while you were standing there in front of the judges?
It’s hard to explain. You prepare yourself because you know you’re either gonna win or get cut at some point. So I was basically just trying not to cry. And then when I hugged Tyra, of course I did start crying. I was definitely upset, but also relieved that I didn’t have to deal with the stress of the competition anymore. I got to go home and be with my family and my boyfriend. And now I can start my own career outside of Top Model, which is fine with me.
Aww, that’s exciting. After every episode, we have a funny quote of the week, and this time we chose yours: “Last week I was a lesbian and this week I’m a ho! [Laughs] In both of your photo shoots, you had to portray someone very different from the real you. If you were given one of the other roles, do you think you would’ve gone farther in the competition?
I don’t know, maybe. I would have loved to get Renee’s “class clown” theme, because they say I have a very animated face. Like I’m always doing really weird facial expressions for some reason. But the more I watch the episodes and hear what was said [in front of the camera], the more it feels like a [regular] reality show. I wasn’t, like, causing a lot of drama like some of the other girls. So that could have [played a part in my elimination, too.]
The high school prom fashion show was so fun to watch. Which is harder, showing attitude on the runway or in your photographs?
Umm…I would say the runway, at least for me. That was the first time I’d really done anything like that — well, other than pageants, which are very different, On top of that, there were three models up there at a time, and we had to cross and come back and wait. Ugh.
Yeah, it seemed a bit tricky. I think I would’ve fallen! So coming from a more conservative environment, were your friends and family supportive of your decision to model?
Yes, definitely! They’re a hundred percent supportive. They know this is what I’ve always wanted to do. So they totally support me and will do anything to help me.
That’s great. It always helps when, ya know, you have that backing from the people that you care about.
Totally.
Our tween and teen readers love reading about embarrassing moments. Anything mortifying come to mind for you? Either from the show or something that’s happened recently?
Oh goodness. I have a lot of embarrassing moments. I’m very clumsy. I always trip over myself. I can barely walk in flat feet, let alone high heels. [So I guess I have to practive that for modeling!]
My boss Jessica will laugh when she reads that, because I trip over the office all the time. Well, thanks so much for taking the time to chat today. We totally wish you the best of luck, and be careful in those heels out there!
Awww, thanks so much! You, too!
