I can’t help it. I have EXTREME self-confidence problems. I just started middle school and with that comes all the pretty older girls and celebs. I cry about it and have considered killing myself once. I can’t stop it!
The two main things are I hate myself for are being ugly and fat. I know I’m not REALLY fat but I can’t stop putting myself down. Help?
-Why Me?
Hey girl, first of all, know you ARE beautiful. Girls in middle school can def be rough, but I promise, not everyone there is a meanie. It’s all about believing in yourself and making friends with girls who will bring you up, not down. I’ve got a few pointers to help you get that perfect start.
First thing first: Those pretty girls and celebs? They’re not perfect. I know it’s hard when you see Selena or Taylor flawlessly rockin’ a magazine cover. But here’s a secret: they have flaws, too…those pictures just don’t show ‘em. Truth is, all lot of the pics you see—ads, online and on TV—are altered before they get to you. No one (not even them!) looks the way those pictures do. They’re literally unreal standards.
What makes a pretty girl REALLY beautiful? Her confidence! Believe me, everyone’s insecure about something (myself included), but what worked for me? Well, my friends had a little game. Whenever I insulted myself, they’d make me say 10 good things about myself. That’s what you need to do, too. Freaking out about being too tall or short? You need to stare at yourself and make a list of 10 things you love. Not only will it highlight your already gorgeous features, but it will get you thinking positively.
And when it comes to diets? There’s no need for ‘em. You’re not overweight and it’s super important you take care of yourself now. Focus on eating healthy and exercising so that you look and fell your best!
On to the serious point, girl: if you ever EVER feel suicidal, you NEED to talk to someone, stat. Do not stay quiet. You should never feel like you want to die. Those feelings must be really overwhelming. Wouldn’t it be nice to talk to someone and let it all out? Open up to your guidance counselor, friends and parents. People WILL support you.
Stay positive and be sure to stick with people who will lift you up too, not bring you down. Get involved in an activity or a sport. It’s a great way to make a strong group of friends with the same interests. Talk to your parents or guidance counselor. Their kind words and advice will help you get happy. Stay strong and know things will definitely get better. It’s all about that positive outlook.
In the end, girl, everyone’s insecure. The trick is look at the sunny side instead of standing in the shadows. Make a list of things you love about yourself. For every insult, double it in compliments. Develop a strong support system and don’t pay too much attention to those celebs. You’re wonderful just the way you are, trust me. All you’ve gotta do now is let yourself see it. I know you will. Good luck, gorgeous!
