I have art class with this really cute 9th grade guy, I am in 8th grade. He is also the TA (teacher assistant) in my P.E. class. He seems like a really nice, down to earth type of guy, but I am pretty shy around guys. I want to talk to him but I have seen him hovering around cheerleader type girls and I am worried that he would think I was stupid for talking to him. And if I do talk to him and I embarrass myself then I have to still be in two classes with him. Should I talk to him? Would it hurt to talk to him?

Really great guys are hard to find. It’s important to NOT make assumptions about what kind of girls a guy might be into. If you do this you’re going to miss out on a lot of fantastic opportunities in life. Just because he hangs out with the cheerleader girls doesn’t mean that’s what he goes for. In my own experience, every cheerleader is outgoing and friendly, they probably make an effort to talk to him which is why he has the tendency to flock to them. The thing about talking to guys is yeah, it can be nerve wracking, but what do you have to lose? If you DON’T say anything then he won’t know how awesome you are and if you DO say something and he thinks you’re weird, then he’s clearly a jerk and you shouldn’t waste time on him anyways. Start with a simple “Hey, how are you?” and see where it goes. Even if you are embarrassed, that will last 2 seconds and life will continue on like it always has.
