You're going prepackaged
If you’re throwing cheese sticks, protein bars, and bags of popcorn into your lunchbox, it might be time to rethink your meal choices. It might be easy to toss a few prepackaged snacks in your bag for lunch, but they often contain crazy amounts of sodium—not good. Try to stick to one or two prepackaged items per day and keep the rest healthy and homemade.
You've disregarding your ratios
Just because your lunch isn’t on a plate doesn’t mean you should totally disregard the 50/25/25 rule. Pack a lunch that’s half fruits and veggies, a quarter protein and a quarter whole grain to make sure you’re following a balanced diet.
You're not getting enough protein
If you notice your stomach growling only thirty minutes after lunch, you’re probably not packing enough protein. Reevaluate your go-to lunch by adding in lean protein and healthy fats that’ll keep you full for longer. A little avocado and chicken breast can do wonders…and you won’t be dying of hunger by math class.
You're not keeping it cool
When food that should stay cool gets warm, it can get a little grody—or worse, spoil and make you sick. It’s unlikely that you have access to a fridge while you’re at school, but there are still ways to keep your lunch chilled. Add a few freezer packs to your lunch or throw in a frozen water bottle before you head for the bus. Your lunch—and your water—will still be cold when you get to the cafeteria.
