Your mantra in life has always been, “I’m having a bad hair day.” What
you want it to be is, “My hair is just naturally beautiful.” (After all, now that you have beautiful skin, you need hair to match!) How do
you go from hair frizz to hair bliss? Follow these great tips for great hair and finally fall in love with your tresses.
1. Wash your hair with warm water to open the hair cuticles, but rinse with cold water to close them (the colder the better… brrr… anything for beauty, even frostbite!). Closing the cuticles will make your hair less prone to humidity activity. Humidity = frizz.
2. Keep the conditioner off the scalp. Your scalp can take care of itself, because it’s loaded with oil glands. The ends of your hair are just dead, dry material. Add some conditioner to the ends of your hair (or no more than mid length) to help tamper down those open hair cuticles. Tighter cuticles = shiny hair.
3. Invest in a good shampoo, because that’s where the harsher chemicals are… the better the shampoo, the better (less harmful) the chemicals for your hair. Investing in a good conditioner isn’t nearly as important, because the chemicals used in conditioners don’t strip hair the way the chemicals in shampoo do.
4. If you want straight hair, don’t bother with the cheap knock-off flat hot irons. Invest in a GHD ceramic hot iron and you won’t regret it. If the GHD is too expensive for your budget, go for a CHI. Your hair will stand up to 1000% humidity, with not a frizzy strand in view. (Ceramic hot irons “glue” the cuticles against the hair shaft until the next time your hair gets wet… as in H20 dowsed.)
5. Straight or curly, however you want to style your hair, try to spend a few minutes in front of an air conditioner after you’ve put the finishing touches on your style. The cold air restricts cuticles, which allows your hair to hold its style longer, be shinier and be naturally beautiful!
The most important tip of all: Don’t fight your hair. Try to find a style that works with the natural texture of your hair and the shape of your face. After all, you don’t want to let life pass you by while you’re fiddling around in the mirror over something that’s really only getting on your nerves. Find a shampoo-ruffle-or-brush-and-go look that works for you, and you’ll find ultimate hair happiness. After that, you’ll have hours to spend on something that really matters — flipping that gorgeous hair around all the gorgeous boys!
