I love friends who are super-honest. Please, tell me if I have food in my teeth and, seriously, let me know if the jeans make my butt look big (well, if I haven’t bought ‘em yet!).
Last Sunday was gorgeous, and I was lucky enough to be on the shore. When someone suggested we go boating, my immediate reaction? “I’m scared of boats!” My friend looked at me and asked (nicely), “What’s with all the hang-ups?” He was right. There was no reason for me to be afraid—he’s a solid driver, there were lifejackets handy and the weather was amazing. At that moment, I decided to clear out my mental clutter.
I hopped (well, stepped carefully) off the dock and got set to jet. When we got to the middle of the Choptank River, I decided to go for it and jump in. Clearly, I survived…and it was awesome.
Now, I’m working to whittle away at my weird fears (highways, crowds) and outdated dislikes (skiing, dancing). Why miss out on fun stuff just ‘cause it might make me nervous? Hey, maybe I’ll even start to enjoy horror movies. Eh, maybe not….
Hearts,
Katie A.
