“The world doesn’t need another love song, so I try and sing about more serious topics…people have responded, because of the honesty.”
The sweet-sounding singer-songwriter Joshua James introduced his album The Sun Is Always Brighter on June 3, and this album is one you can’t pass by.
The native Nebraskan didn’t pick up a guitar ’til the age of 20, though to listen to his acoustic guitar playing you’d think he was born with a six-string in his hand. Inspired by a trek through South America, James began writing and finding the music to go along with his words.
In James’ songs, he tells intimate stories of his life and the lives of those he watched endure hardship. Each song conveys some meaning, whether it’s the human endurance of the tribulations of life or the political state of the country. His lyrics showcase his views and feelings in regard to the ever-changing world.
His voice doesn’t overshadow the accompanying instruments; rather it blends into a whispering, gentle companionship. Some of his tunes have a peppier beat, although the chirpy rhythm doesn’t mean the song is a happy one. Many are slower, but equally as enjoyable even if you are more accustomed to quick rock songs.
The Sun is Always Brighter will be a bright addition to your CD collection, that’s for sure.
