Must List

5 Irish artists you should listen to, just in time for St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner! Whether you're prepping your shamrock treats or practicing your Irish dance routine, you *need* some on-theme jams. Add these Irish artists to your St. Paddy's Day playlist, bc (luckily) they're all brilliant.

Hozier

@hozier

Hozier is the ultimate bluesy folk singer from Bray, Ireland. Picture this: You're dramatically walking through a forest in a flowy dress and come across a beautiful clearing with grazing cows and a soft mist of rain. OK, back to reality: You're just listening to Hozier. His vibe is totally earthy and calming—and makes you feel like you're inhabiting a quaint cabin in the mountains. Hozier often makes literary and religious references throughout his two albums, Wasteland Baby! and his self-titled record. And BTW, he has a new album coming out in 2023.

Niall Horan

@niallhoran

After his initial rise to fame as a member of One Direction, Niall Horan has released two solo albums in the past few years. He blends pop and soft rock, utilizing his fab songwriting talents from his 1D days. He sings a mix of fun tunes you can jam to during your late-night dance sesh, as well as heartbreaking ballads (we recommend "Put a Little Love on Me." Major tear-jerker). Tbh, we think he should be *just* as famous as his former bandmate Harry Styles. And P.S.: Niall has a new album called The Show coming out June 9, so you should totally get ahead of the trend now.

Orla Gartland

@orlagartland

Orla Gartland is an up-and-coming indie artist hailing from Dublin. Her folk-pop tunes are heavily influenced by Joni Mitchell, Regina Spektor and Imogen Heap. She has an EP and an album out now, both consisting of upbeat bops and tragic sad songs. You may recognize her music from the Hulu show Normal People or the Netflix hit Heartstopper! If you're a fan of Maisie Peters, Gracie Abrams or Maggie Rogers, you'll totally heart Orla.

Pillow Queens

@pillowqueensband

Say hello to Pillow Queens! An all-female group from Dublin, their indie rock sound is perf for fans of The Regrettes or Boygenius. Their songs feature strong guitar solos and heavy drums with '90s punk influences. They've recorded two albums so far and are currently touring Ireland. Be sure to give this killer girl gang a listen this St. Paddy's Day.

The Cranberries

@thecranberries

The Cranberries is the quintessential Irish '90s band. Straight out of Limerick, Ireland, they have a unique alternative sound and dreamy vibe that has us wrapped around their finger (see what we did there?). Their 1993 album Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We? includes their iconic hit "Dreams," while 1994's No Need to Argue boasts their most popular tune "Zombie." If you're in need of some moody, grunge-y music this St. Paddy's day, look no further than The Cranberries.
