EXCLUSIVE! Love, Victor's Abigail Fierce is here to get you over even the worst breakup

Whether you know her from her role as Wendy on Hulu's Love, Victor or from her seriously catchy singles like "Some Sorta Goodbye" and "Scream It to the Whole World," Abigail Fierce is just that—fierce. Read on to find out how to she turned some of her worst moments into her biggest wins (and how you can, too). Like we said, fierce.

Girls' Life: Who are your musical inspirations?

Abigail: I love all kinds of music, but my main inspirations are Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and 5 Seconds of Summer. I also love a lot of '90s rock bands.

At what age did you start making music?

I've always loved to write, but I started writing music in middle school. I think it was a way for me to control my narrative at a time when I felt like I didn't have much control over things. In seventh grade, I performed in a talent show, and some girls laughed at me. I remember crying in the school bathroom—and that's when lyrics kind of just started appearing in my mind. That night, I went home and wrote my first song.

Your new song, "Scream It to the Whole World," is an LGBTQ+ anthem about two girls who have to keep their love a secret. What was your process like for writing this song?

I wrote "Scream It to the Whole World" about a real-life experience that happened to me. Originally, I just wrote the song as a way to help me process my emotions and heal—I never thought I would release it! But then I realized that, if there had been a song like this when I was in school, it would have made me feel less alone. I decided to release it…and I'm so glad I did.

How does it feel to be a role model to so many LGBTQ+ youth?

I am so proud to represent the LGBTQ+ community. I always wished I had more LGBTQ+ role models growing up. The fact that I can be that for someone is just so, so amazing. If my music can make even one person feel less alone, then I'll have done my job.

What was a memorable behind-the-scenes moment from filming Love, Victor?

It was so fun getting glammed up for the prom scenes! The hair and makeup artists did such an amazing job, and the prom set was beautiful. There were so many twinking lights everywhere! It looked magical.

We seriously love your style. How do you pull your looks together?

I usually just follow my intuition and adjust my outfits until they feel representative of me. For the dress I wear in the "Scream It to the Whole World" music video, I removed the buttons it came with and replaced them with rainbow-colored buttons. I also love swapping out my shoelaces with colored ones.

What is one piece of advice you try to live by?

"Run your race with your blinders on." It's a reference to horse racing, but the idea behind it is to follow your dreams and stay focused on your goals. It's easy to get distracted, but my best advice is to try not to waste your time being jealous of someone else. There's no one else in the world like you.

About those goals, what are you hoping to achieve in 2022? Are you looking to pursue more acting roles?

My goals are to write, record and release more music. As for acting, I'm always auditioning for roles that are meaningful to me. I'm not allowed to say anything yet, but hopefully there will be some more announcements soon!
