Selena Gomez’s next project will leave you shook

Whether she's being open about her struggle with lupus, her anxiety or body positivity, Selena Gomez is not afraid to use her voice to call attention to an issue. And her latest passion project is just another example of how dedicated Sel is to giving back. Selena recently served as co-executive producer on Living Undocumented, a documentary series coming to Netflix on October 2.

The series follows eight undocumented immigrants as they navigate a difficult and sometimes dangerous path to U.S. citizenship. "How horrifying that at any moment you could be stopped, detained and separated from your family," one voice laments. Selena admits that she felt an obligation to tell these stories. "I chose to produce this series, Living Undocumented, because over the past few years, the word 'immigrant' has seemingly become a negative word," Selena explained to The Hollywood Reporter. "My hope is that the series can shed light on what it's like to live in this country as an undocumented immigrant firsthand, from the courageous people who have chosen to share their stories."

Selena hopes that the series will remind us all of one fact: that undocumented immigrants are, above all else, human. “The immigration issue is more complex than one administration, one law or the story you hear about on the news,” she wrote on Instagram. “These are real people in your community, your neighbors, your friends—they are all part of the country we call home. I can’t wait for you guys to see this [documentary] and hope it impacts you like it impacted me.”
