It’s not really summer until Pressley Hosbach says so. And with her new single, “like a melody” (out today!), she’s definitely saying so.
The singer/songwriter/podcaster/actor/dancer/former GL cover star (need we go on?) just dropped her latest electro-pop jam when the world needed her most. “It’s a big dance track,” she says, when we catch up with her to get all the deets on “like a melody.” “It’s a step into a new era of mine. I’m now really figuring out my sound and my vibe.”
Said vibe, according to Pressley? “You’re driving in your car with your best friends by the ocean, your windows are down, your hair is probably so knotted, but it’s the best summer day ever.”
As if we weren’t already sold on that immaculate energy, we sat down with Pressley to talk about the bittersweet crush sitch that inspired the song—plus her highly-relatable plan to make this season the sunniest yet. Can we get a “di di di da di“?

Girls’ Life: Do you remember where you were when you first got the idea for “like a melody”?
Pressley Hosbach: For a long time, I knew I wanted to create a very summer-inspired dance song And something that gives the vibes of a summer fling. You know, when you have that crush and you’re so excited about it, dancing around your bedroom. You just want to be around them all the time, but also you kind of know that it’s not going to last forever.
GL: So would you say it’s a love song?
Pressley: I wouldn’t say it’s a straight-up love song—although I could see how some listeners might think that. But it’s also not a breakup or heartbreak song. It captures that feeling of being excited about something new coming into your life, but also being excited by the idea of not knowing where it’s going.
GL: Can we expect another Pressley-produced music vid for “like a melody?”
Pressley: Here’s what I’ll say: I have a lot of exciting things that I may be releasing along with this track. Might not necessarily be a music video, but people should stay tuned!

GL: It’s been over two years since the release of your debut single, “COOL.” How have you changed as an artist since then?
Pressley: Thinking back to that time, everything was so new. I had only been writing music for a few years before that. I was like a sponge, just trying to soak everything up and learn. Because I grew up as a dancer, I didn’t know much about the music industry—but I knew I had such a passion for it. Now that I feel like I understand the ropes more, I can really be creative and express myself. I have a lot more confidence in my voice, in myself, in my decisions and in my creativity.
GL: Besides “like a melody,” what else is on your summer playlist?
Pressley: I’m all over the place, to be honest. I have been loving the new Olivia Rodrigo album. “stupid song” and “expectations” are my faves. I’ve also been listening a lot to Zara Larsson’s Midnight Sun: Girls Trip. I think that it’s so fun and so dance-y.
GL: And one item on your bucket list?
Pressley: Literally being at the beach as much as possible. My friends and I love finding new hidden beaches to explore. That’s my goal like every summer.
