After an over two-year wait, your favorite crew—or “Gaang” as they’re lovingly called by the fandom—is *finally* back onscreen. Avatar: The Last Airbender’s second season is officially streamable on Netflix and promises more epic battles, funny moments and iconic friendships brought to life. Jogging Your Memory…(Season One Spoilers Ahead!)
We know it’s been a while since season one, so what better way to get ready for what’s next than with a short recap? The first installment—which adapts “Book 1: Water” from the animated series—focuses on Avatar Aang, who is the last airbender of his kind. The show follows his adventures with siblings Katara and Sokka, highlighting their travels across the four nations while they try to avoid capture by exiled Prince Zuko or Commander Zhao from the power-hungry Fire Nation.
The series ends with a high-stakes battle waged against the Northern Water Tribe as a result of Zhao and his firebending army’s invasion. While the series concludes with Aang and his friends’ victory, the twist at the end revealed that this invasion was actually a distraction from the Fire Nation’s true target: the Earth Kingdom.
So…What Exactly Is Season Two About?
Season two picks up where season one left off and re-imagines “Book 2: Earth,” focusing on Aang’s journey to master earthbending and his quest to convince the Earth King to help in their fight against Ozai, the fearsome Fire Lord. In addition to Aang, your favorite heroes like Katara, the talented water bender, genius warrior Sokka and beloved flying bison Appa will be returning. Unfortunately for the gang, Zuko and Azula will also be back to bring more challenges for Team Avatar. On the bright side, there will also be some new introductions, like Toph, a fierce, blind earthbender.
Fun Ideas for Fans
There are many exciting ways to get ready for the upcoming season, but planning a watch party with your gals might be one of the best ways to celebrate the release. Make it a themed snack board potluck, and assign each of your friends one nation to base their board on. Whether you’re eating fiery red ramen noodles or trying Oreo and gummy worm “earth” cupcakes, you’re sure to have a fun time. You can also make season one trivia cards to play before starting (also a great way to jog everyone’s memory), then write down your predictions for season two before watching. Whoever has the most predictions come true wins!
