Eve Ridley’s summer is about to be, ahem, super.
Sure, the 14-year-old actress (whose voice you may recognize from your fave childhood cartoon…) will be doing Very Normal Teenager Things, like hitting the mall, making friendship bracelets, daydreaming about a trip to Disney World and, admittedly, sleeping in.
But she’ll also be starring in DC Studios’ highly-anticipated blockbuster, Supergirl, alongside Milly Alcock and Jason Momoa. In the new movie (hitting the big screen June 26, mark your cal), Eve portrays Ruthye Marye Knoll, a remarkably brave young warrior who teams up with Kara Zor-El when tragedy strikes. And let’s just say: The two make an unlikely pair.
Not to be dramatic, but becoming Ruthye and acting in her first-ever feature film changed Eve’s life as she knew it. No, we’re not referring to the fact that she’s now signing fans’ comics and walking red carpets—though that’s definitely part of it.
“In playing Ruthye, I realized I love absolutely everything about acting,” she shares. “I loved being able to transform into her and kind of just leave myself behind.”
So it tracks that when we sit down with Eve to talk all things Supergirl (and, duh, ask her the age-old “Which superpower would you want?” Q), she’s nearly bubbling over with excitement about what her future has in store. Can you blame her?
Girls’ Life: What’s your first memory of performing?
Eve Ridley: I was about six. And, like every kid, I loved to play pretend and dress up as my favorite Disney princesses. That’s mainly how it started: I’d role play. I’d make up a dance, dress up as Cinderella and then perform it for my mum and dad. Then I joined a drama school, a local one. It wasn’t a serious thing at first, but just for fun. Something to do on the weekend.
GL: And what was your first role?
Eve: It was actually in Peppa Pig, as Wendy Wolf. And I didn’t even really know what was going on at the time, since I was so young.

GL: Huge congrats on your feature film debut in Supergirl! Can you tease anything about your character Ruthye?
Eve: In some ways, she’s similar to real-life Eve—although she’s a bit braver than I would be! We both have lots of love for our families, too.
GL: What was it like to work with the more experienced actors on set?
Eve: Milly [Alcock] was especially amazing to work with. She was like a big sister to me. I’m the oldest of three at home, so it was nice to look up to her and learn a lot because I came onto this project without a ton of previous knowledge.
GL: Any memorable advice that Milly gave you?
Eve: She told me to sleep. [laughs] Because she said that these days spent shooting can get really long and tiring. So she always reminded me: Don’t miss out on sleep.
GL: Do you have a fave moment from filming?
Eve: I did have a bracelet company on set. Me and my doubles, Eva and Niamh, we made big posters and stuck them on all the different departments’ trailers. We would take cast and crew members’ orders every day when we were on a break from filming. Then, we’d make them these little custom beaded bracelets and give them out the next week. It was really fun, first of all, but it was also a nice wind-down moment, especially after doing some more demanding scenes.
GL: What do you hope that girls take away from Supergirl when they see it?
Eve: I definitely want them to look up to Kara as a character. She isn’t the stereotypical superhero. She has imperfections—and some of those end up being her strengths, too. She has messy hair, she goes out every night and sleeps in, and she has a messy room. I want girls to know that is OK. You can be your own superhero by just being yourself.
GL: We have to ask: If you could choose any superpower, which would you pick?
Eve: I’ve had conversation after conversation about this, and I’ve always had the same answer. If we lived in a world where everyone has powers, I’d want to have the ability to steal other people’s powers. So then I’d get a variety!
GL: Could you share one item that’s on your summer bucket list?
Eve: I’d love to travel to a tropical place and zipline. That’s something I’ve always wanted to do. Somehow, I’m scared of roller coasters, but not at all afraid of ziplining. Oh, or ride in a hot air balloon. I’m manifesting it!
