Every new song we hear from Olivia Rodrigo steps us closer to sad girl summer. Her most recent release, “the cure,” is no exception.

The moody track (which dropped today, along with a quirky music vid) is the second single from Olivia’s forthcoming third album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love. Unlike the lovestruck, dreamy vibe of “drop dead,” “the cure” leans into her rock influences and that trademark OR angst.

On “the cure,” Olivia opens up about an all-too-relatable feeling: the hope that falling in love will fix all your probs, insecurities and self-doubts. Spoiler alert, it doesn’t.

The music video—watch it here!—shows Olivia working as a nurse, searching desperately for a treatment that’ll revive her collection of felt hearts in the OR (that’s “operating room,” tyvm). And if you were wondering about the meaning behind the name of Liv’s upcoming Unraveled Tour, “the cure” has your answer. During the most dramatic sequence in the vid, red threads begin creeping out of Olivia’s bod as she slowly realizes she can’t find—yes, you guessed it—a cure for her internal chaos.

Our fave moment, though, has got to be the mysterious ending, where we see Olivia in an empty house, surrounded by moving boxes, crushing a dollhouse-sized version of the hospital under her foot. A hint at the wider story arc of the album? We can’t help but theorize…

Thanks to the gut-wrenching strings (pun v. much intended) and the bridge you simply *have* to belt, “the cure” def earns a spot on the shortlist of Rodrigo tear-jerkers. In her IG post announcing the song’s release, Olivia shared that she wrote “the cure” as the “thesis statement” of the new record. Its wistful energy certainly has fans speculating about whether or not girl so in love will be considered a bona fide breakup album.

But one thing we do know for sure? It’s going to be a rollercoaster of emotions. Time to strap in, Livies.
