Sunny Beauty Dos & Don'ts

Confuzzled on how to deal with curly hair in the heat? Don't know if you should break out your bold new eyeshadow or save it for back-to-school? Need advice on how to get a great (and safe!) summer glow?

Here's our super-easy summer hair and makeup secrets that work for every girl!

Do wear sunscreen. When it comes to SPF, the magic number is 15—at least. Anything less and you’re bound to burn, babe. It’s important to apply sunscreen all over your body, including your face, hands and feet. Reapplying every couple of hours is a must. And don’t forget sunglasses. Not only do they look totally fab, but they protect your eyes from sun damage, too. Pop on a hat and you’re set!

Do use bronzing powder. Instead of lying in a tanning bead or a beach chair all day long, dust some of this on your forehead, cheeks and nose for a healthy summer glow. Be careful not to use too much or it’ll look fake.

Do rock a perky pony. Summer humidity can mean death to an ultra glam hairdo. So to save your style from becoming a frizzy mess, gather your hair at the crown of your head and adorn with a funky, printed headband.

Don’t go heavy on the makeup. This season is all about natural beauty, so less is always more. Stay fresh all day with waterproof mascara, a nude or coral lip-gloss and a touch of pink blush for a dewy, sun-kissed look that doesn’t look overdone. If you don’t want to go completely natural, try a tinted moisturizer with SPF instead of foundation. It will change your beauty routine for the better, we promise!

Don’t leave the house without a pedicure. One word: flip-flops. Just because your feet have been hibernating all winter, doesn’t mean they shouldn’t look fun and colorful at all times now that summer’s here. Bright colors, such as hot pink, neon green and electric blue, will make you stand out in a good way and look great on all skin types.

Don’t fight the heat. Okay, so you can turn on the A/C, but please don’t spend hours in the mirror straightening you hair. Put the flat iron down and let your natural waves loose. The beachy look is all the rage this summer so let your hair dry naturally. Could it get any easier?
