Chatting with Madeline Carroll

Madeline Carroll stars as Molly in Swing Vote, and GL got her on the phone to dish about her latest role, her passion for the environment and life with three brothers.

On her first job at age 4

“It’s so much fun and so different from anything else. You get to see different parts of people when you play different characters. You get a different view.”

Working on Swing Vote

“It was so much fun. Kevin Costner was so nice and everybody was so welcoming. It was just great. You don’t want to work on a set where everyone is moody and cranky. They were just so nice and kind and loving.”

On her character Molly
“She is a tough cookie and very into school and politics. She learns about politics in school and ends up sneaking in and voting for her Dad.” Sneaky!

Ambition to win an award
“I think it would be so much fun going up there on stage in front of all kinds of people and saying thank you. That would be my main accomplishment.”

She’s an outdoor gal

“I like to surf. My Dad and I love fishing and gathering shells when we go to the river or the lake. My favorite thing, though, is swimming.”

Family time means movie time
“Our favorite thing to do is go to the movies to see comedies. We joke around with each other and re-enact the scenes.”

Life with three brothers

“We play sports all the time when I’m not filming. We love to swim and do all kinds of sporty things together. We are very

close. I’m kind of a tomboy. I love being rough and tumble and all that. But I love getting clothes and going shopping. I love getting my hair done, getting my hands and feet done. I love all the girl stuff. And then when I am not doing that I am playing sports.”

On back-to-school shopping

“We go to different stores like Limited Too, and we get all the clothes and shoes and all the stuff we need and the backpacks. And my brothers come too, and they just get so bored with it. And I’m like, ‘Oh let’s try this on, let’s try this on. And they are like, ‘Shut up, let’s go home.’”

Friends are what she misses most while working

“I have wonderful friends. They are always there for me and they go and see all of my movies and stuff. They are very supportive.”

Her passion—saving the environment
“If the water is polluted and the wildlife is polluted, the earth becomes one gigantic trash can and nobody is going to be allowed, or want to, live in that.”

We were struck by how down to earth Madeline is—seems kin

d of like a GL gal, right?
