10 reasons you should love being single

When just about everyone around you seems to be coupling up, it can be hard to appreciate everything the single life can offer you. Whether you’re newly solo (or have been for a while now), there's no reason you should feel down about not having a significant other. In fact, we feel so strongly about this, that we came up with ten reasons why being single should be *celebrated*.

1. FOMO is a thing of the past.

Do you have that one friend who’s always cancelling plans to hang out with her boo? While you might feel a little envious that she’s got a guy, she’s the one really missing out. Being single means actually being able to spend time with your girlfriends whenever you want.

2. You don’t have to deal with jealousy and drama.

Sure, not every relationship is filled with dramatic fights and over-the-top jealously. But if you’re riding solo, there’s zero chance your most recent relationship upset has become the newest bit of school gossip.

3. When it comes to dressing to impress, you only have to impress yourself.

If you ever found yourself leaving your fave jeans in the closet because you knew your BF liked you in dresses, this one is for you. Being single is the perfect time to experiment with your personal style without the judgmental gaze from a boy who just doesn’t get it.

4. There’s no stressing over meeting the parents or BFFs.

Trying to win over a guy’s family and friends can be just about impossible sometimes. And worrying about whether your ‘rents and besties will love the new boyfriend can be even worse. Leave the stressin’ to those in a relationship and relax.

5. You’re avoiding any breakup awkwardness.

Breakups are hard – and weird. You have to deal with heartbreak and learn how to redefine yourself now that you’re on your own. While others around you might be having a tough time adapting to the single life, you’ve already become a pro.

6. No pretending to be interested in his interests.

No, you do not like football, or Skyrim, or watching every single Transformers movie in one sitting. And guess what? That’s totally ok. When you’re single, you don’t have to try to be filled-in on the latest sport’s news or video game cheat codes. You get to focus on your own interest and nothing more.

7. Focusing on yourself is your first priority.

We’re pretty certain that there is no better time than time doing what makes you happy. Being in a relationship means having to watch an action movie rather than your fave chick flick or maybe missing out on some girl time to go to your boyfriends soccer match. When you’re single, there’s no compromising what you enjoy.

8. You’ve got more money in your pocket.

Relationships are expensive. Going out to eat, going to the movies, and buying gifts can really add up. While your friends may have empty pockets because they’re taken, you can use your cash to treat yourself instead.

9. There’s time to try new things.

Sometimes having a significant other can feel like a full time job. Being single is like quitting your full time job and picking up a new hobby instead. Try knitting, or sign up for a yoga class. The options are limitless!

10. You’re open to new opportunities—and new romances.

Living the single life means having a lot of freedom to do whatever you want, whenever you want. Which means, if you’re looking to engage in a summer fling or just be a little flirty, you totally can.

Are you currently single? What do you enjot most about it?
