Keep in shape for fall sports during the summer

Play a fall sport? Don’t get too caught up on the lazy days of summer. Preseason can sneak up on you fast. Make a promise to yourself that you will keep in shape by doing these three easy exercises. Grab a friend, your field hockey stick, and try them out. You will have fun and your coach is sure to be impressed when you return to your team in the fall. You got this, girl!
1. Rock the distance runs
Long distance running is a great way to stay in shape. For those of you that get bored easily, make sure you run with a friend or check out our weekly playlists for some catchy songs that will make you want to never stop running. This may sound very basic, but it is an essential to keeping in shape. Start out with a mile and see if you can make your way up to three miles. If you do this three to four times a week, you will start to see great improvements in your stamina.
2. Sprints (with a twist)
We know, we know: Sprinting is tough enough with adding an extra element. This summer, challenge yourself to even tougher speed work. Try going full-out while holding your field hockey stick or dribbling a soccer ball. Aim for 10 sprints down the length of the field (give yourself a 30 second break between each one). Make sure you bring a stopwatch to chart your improvement as the season progresses.
3. Work that core
A strong core is a necessity for any sport. By building up your core muscles you are also strengthening your back and helping to lessen back pain. Check out our five fave ab moves here.
