How to help my friend deal with divorce
But my friend's mom called my parents and told them about their family problems. My friend's mom wanted my mom and me to be there for my friend and notice if anything about her behavior was unusual.
How can I help her overcome the pain?
Hey girl,
Divorce is a tough situation for anyone to go through. But it’s great that your friend has people in her life who care about her well being, including you.
Being there makes a big difference
Having your parents divorce can be a very lonely experience. While many girls and guys go through it, your friend might feel like no one understands or there’s no one she can talk to. Make sure she knows that you’re there for her, whether she wants to talk or needs a shoulder to cry on.
Keep things normal
Divorce is a major change, so try to keep things between you and your friend the same way they were before. Don’t feel like you have to ask if she’s OK 24/7. But do try to make fun plans like an awesome sleepover to get her mind off the ‘rents.
Be on the lookout
While it’s normal for your friend to be sad or upset, it’s important that she doesn’t become depressed or have a drastically negative change in behavior. If you notice any of that beginning to happen, let your mom or her mom know as soon as possible. By doing that, you will help your friend in the long run.
Good luck, doll.
