What does "I love you" REALLY mean?

When a guy says he loves you, what does he really mean?

BILL: How nice that you think a guy is capable of multi-layered thinking.  Basically, you're asking, "What is love?" I try to refer all questions like this to Shakespeare. However, since the Bard died about 400 years ago and doesn't respond to my e-mails, I'll give it a shot. Love is a strange thing to guys, but they know "I love you" is a big deal to girls.

Manipulative guys will say the magic words to achieve their own ends. A genuine guy might take a little longer to tell you he loves you (and he may never actually come out and say it), but he probably really values the emotion he's trying to express.

DAVE: Come on, Bill, Shakespeare? I'll defer to the 17th century French writer Francois de La Rochefoucauld, who said, "It is with true love as it is with ghosts; everyone talks about it, but few have seen it." The younger you are, the truer that observation. And any guy with a name that cool and that long must know what he's talking about.

Sometimes saying, "I love you," is the only thing a guy can think to say when you tell him you love him. You can't exactly respond by asking a girl if she'd like to watch Gossip Girl reruns.
