Editor's Blog: Get smart about your sport

Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty: When was the last time you really studied up on your fave sport or activity? Maybe you went to camp last summer or a clinic with your team to brush up on the basics or read a book about an awesome athlete. For me, it’s been a while.

I haven’t been to a sports camp in years (sigh—it was always my fave week of summer, too), but I did go to a yoga workshop last night. It was with Jill Miller, whose claim to fame is the Yoga Tune Up, a get-healthy system of yoga that focuses on healing. Like anything else, it’s easy to get into a certain groove with yoga. Next thing ya know, this practice with a ton of opportunity has been whittled down to a few moves you know by heart. It’s the same if you play on a team sport—maybe you always pass the ball to a certain teammate or launch your lay-ups the same way. A clinic or workshop can be a total rut-buster and make you realize why you l-o-v-e what you do.

The workshop I went to focused on relaxation techniques and massage (which, awesomely enough, I wrote about in our Dec./Jan. Issue. Check it out!). Even though I’ve been practicing yoga for almost ten years, there was sooo much I didn’t know about how to chill out and breathe properly. Hint: Wanna relax instantaneously? Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet planted on the floor. Inhale and exhale deeply for an entire minute. Goodbye, stress. Hello, open mind.

So, girlies, are you working to boost your exercise expertise in any areas? Blog it out...we wanna know what you’re up to!
