Don't Want to Drift Apart

My absolute greatest friend and I are drifting apart. We used to spend every moment together, but not anymore. Today before school, we were at a table (just us), and after a really long silence, I asked, “When did it get all weird?” She replied, “We just have nothing to talk about anymore,” and left. It broke my heart.

I have plenty of friends, but I would trade them all for things to be normal with her again.

Dear Looking for My Missing Piece,
I know how much this hurts and I’m sorry. As you know, many BFFs don’t truly stay best friends forever, so I’m glad you’re reaching out to new girls. Meantime, is there anything you and she can still talk about? Try discussing something upbeat (a band, TV show, school event, Thanksgiving plans) rather than analyzing your troubles. Can you invite her to a movie or shopping or bowling or trick-or-treating – some activity that does not require nonstop talking? A little distance may also help and someday if you two are involved in the same sport or same play, you may find new common ground.
