OK, if you’ve been seeing these adorbs gumdrop necklaces (AKA candy necklaces) everywhere recently, you’re not alone. This overnight trend is here to stay, and tbh? We heart it. Bold, nostalgic and colorful, they’re pretty much our dream necklaces. Sure, you can get in on the trend by buying one, but you know what’s even better? Letting your creativity shine by DIY-ing your own custom necklace. Read on for our how-to.
Snag Your Supplies
The trickiest part of this craft is finding the right beads. Look for beads called “5×8 mm rondelles” so your necklace turns out just right. (Find our fave gumdrop beads right here.) If you want to separate your big beads with teeny-tiny ones for a little variety, try these beads. And, ofc, to finish off your necklace, you’ll need to snag some jewelry wire and lobster clasps.
Pick Your Design
With these necklaces, there are *so* many ways to make it your own. But the first step in deciding on your design? Choosing your color palette. If you’re looking for a chic, put-together look, try a monochromatic design. But if you want that playful, fun energy? Mix a few bold colors together for a funky look. (P.S.– if you’re feeling somewhere in between, try using multiple shades all of the same color).
Your necklace doesn’t have to be just big beads stacked together– try mixing it up. Lots of people divide their beads with tiny seed beads or even gold spacers. Our fave way to spice it up, though? Adding on a few extra fun charms.
Put It All Together

These beads are *way* easy to craft. All you’ve got to do? Slide the beads of your choice right onto your wire. Use pliers to attach your lobster clasp at the end, and you’re all done! More of a visual learner? Peep the video above. You’ve got this, girl.
Style It

The best thing about these necklaces is that they can go with pretty much anything. From elevating your favorite sweat set to pairing perfectly with a fancy dress, they can do it all. Our only word of advice? These funky necklaces are already pretty bold by themselves, so let them be the star of the show by pairing them with minimalist or neutral tops. If you wanna add even more shine to your style, make it into a necklace stack by layering your gumdrop necklace with dainty gold chains or even other candy necklaces.
