We see cute breakfast in bed spreads all the time on Instagram, but when’s the last time you *actually* did something like this for your mom? If you want to give her an extra-special Mother’s Day, read on to learn how to craft the perfect a.m. surprise for your forever BFF.
The food

There are so many delish brekkie foods out there, and it gets pretty hard to decide which ones will make it onto the tray. Here are a few of the best foods for an extra-aesthetic breakfast in bed:
Buttermilk pancakes: These are a non-negotiable for any breakfast in bed! The good news? They’re super easy to make. All you need is a quick pancake mix (or you can try out this pancake recipe) and your Dad’s griddle to get started. Get flippin’, girl!
A cozy coffee: You can stick with her usual brew, or you can spice things up (think: a layer of cold foam or caramel drizzle) for a special treat.
Fruit kabobs: Fruit is great, but fruit on a stick? Even better. The freshness of the fruit makes the meal a little lighter and healthier (we heart sweet strawberries and banana slices). You can even add a sentimental touch by using any extra blueberries and banana slices to make a cute smiley face on her pancake.
Yogurt + granola: The sour ‘n’ sweet flavor combo of Greek yogurt and granola is a classic for a reason. You can even make the yogurt bowl your own by adding extra toppings like strawberries or honey.
Scrambled eggs: Give your mom the protein and energy she needs by whipping up her fave type of eggs (scrambled, fried, poached, etc.).
The card
The best part of any gift? A sentimental card that comes from the heart (aww!). Make your mom’s breakfast extra sweet by serving it up with this extra touch.
Either grab a pre-made one from the store or DIY your own with a folded sheet of paper (cardstock if you have it). On the inside, you can write a paragraph (or two) about how great of a mom she is, a simple “I love you” or even a few pinches of prose. Remember to stand it up on your breakfast tray to make sure it’s the first thing your mom sees on her special day. No matter how extravagant you end up making your card, your mom will *adore* starting off the day with your little treat.
The presentation

The final step to making your breakfast treat is, ofc, making it look *adorable.* Start by snagging a tray to set the whole meal on. (A wooden tray is super aesthetically pleasing, but any will do.) Scoured the house and still couldn’t find a single brekkie tray? Never fear! You can always make do with a simple lap desk. You can even go the extra mile by adding a mini tablecloth (a dinner napkin works great) to the tray.
The day before, swing by the grocery store (or your blooming garden) for some flowers. You can drop most of them in a vase for a separate prezzie, but remember to take one flower and put on the side of your tray (sophisticated much?). And, ofc, remember to put the basic silverware and a napkin to the other side of the tray.
Above all, remember to show your mom how much you care (your greatest gift). And not just today–every day!
