Summer’s almost over, your first semester of college is almost here, and soon? You and the gang will be heading your separate ways…for good. If you’re not quite ready to say goodbye to your besties for life yet, read on to find out the easiest and most fun ways to stay connected long-distance.
Send snail mail

Instead of short, dry texts, writing out long paragraphs in a letter lets you really have in-depth convos with your besties. You can even add some extra fun to your mail by decorating the envelopes—what’s more exciting than finding a super cute letter the next time you check the mail? If you want to take it up a notch, you can even send your bsfs small care packages through the mail (with dorm room essentials like candy, face masks and fuzzy socks).
Set up a FaceTime sched
When you set up specific times to FaceTime each week (say, 5 p.m. on Tuesdays), it becomes a lot easier to remember. Instead of basing your friendship on a few rogue calls whenever the urge strikes, you and your friends will have a steady flow of interaction (the thing friendships thrive on, BTW). Repetition = a game changer.
Make a shared playlist
Open up your Spotify and start sharing, bc you’re about to make the bestie playlist of your dreams. Each day, each of you will add a song. It can be a song describing your day, one by a new artist you just discovered or even one that was just stuck in your head all day. No matter what songs you add, when your bestie gives your playlist a listen, she’ll know what’s up (after all, music *is* the best storyteller).
Send a pic per day

The cutest way to stay caught up? Turning your GC into a digital scrapbook of your new lives. Before the big move, have everyone agree to send one pic per day (or week, if your squad will be a little busier) to give your gals a peek into your life. It doesn’t have to be super aesthetic or curated–it can be as goofy or casual as you want. The goal is to keep your friends in the loop of what’s happening with you.
Stream your shows together

So you’re missing your squad Netflix nights… but who said they had to stop? Instead of pressing pause on your fave hangout when you move away, turn it into a staple of your long-distance friendships. Instead of bingeing your fave shows all by your lonesome, call up your BFFs and watch it together. Bonding over your fifth rewatch of Gilmore Girls = peak friendship goals.
