Your Bod

Are you hungry or just bored? Here's how to tell

We’ve all been there. There’s nothing to do, you’re wandering around your house and all of a sudden you find yourself in front of the fridge. You decide to take a peek inside, and something catches your eye. Maybe it’s your brother’s birthday cake or yesterday’s leftover chinese takeout. Before you reach in there and grab it, take a second to stop and think. Just like you’re taught to think before you speak, think before you eat. Be thoughtful about what you’re choosing to put into your body and think about why.

It takes practice to be able to tell quickly if you’re just bored and not really hungry, but the best trick to practice is this: ask yourself if you’re hungry enough to eat carrots. If you really are and you want carrots, go ahead and make yourself a healthy snack. If you don’t want the carrots and just want the deliciousness that is chocolate cake, find something else to do.

Figure out what your boredom is stemming from, and find a way to fix it. Leave the kitchen and go for a run, start that DIY you’ve been dreaming of, call a friend. There’s lots of things you can be doing instead of snacking, so do them!
