Got buttne? We've got the solution to all your body acne probs

While our summer plans may differ in one way or another, they probably all include spending at least an afternoon or two by a body of water, soaking up some much needed vitamin D. And no one wants their perf beach plans to be thwarted by unwanted acne – especially in super awkward places. Just because your chin is the usual spot for breakouts doesn’t mean that your butt, back, and chest aren’t immune to a zit or two. But have no fear; we’ve got a few tips and tricks to help you avoid that awful acne and enjoy a summer free of body breakouts.

Protect yourself from the sun

There’s no doubt that sunscreen is essential in protecting your skin from the sun, but the type of sunscreen you use is key to ensuring you’re not experiencing any kind of backne or chestne. Invest in a sunscreen that’s oil-free and non-comedogenic (like Boots No7 Beautiful Skin Oil Free Protector, $9.99, drugstore.com). A non-comedogenic sunscreen won’t clog your pores as you sweat in the sun, helping you avoid any awk breakouts.

B.Y.O.T. – bring your own towel

You know those lounge chairs that make for perfect perches at the pool? Turns out they’re not exactly the best place to rest your tush in between swims. Instead of plopping down on a naked chair, cover it with your own, clean towel. This way, you’re avoiding direct contact with any bacteria left behind by the elements or other users.

Exfoliation is key

Regularly buffing your skin is another sure-fire way to keep your pores from clogging. Opt for a granular exfoliant cleanser that you can use on all your acne-prone spots. For even more protection, go for a product that also contains benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid (try Neutrogena Body Clear Body Scrub, $5.99, target.com). These over-the-counter options will help to treat the buttne, chestne, and backne you have and thwart off any would-be breakouts.
